(オッペンハイマー) Oppenheimer Journey from Germany to America:

Julius Robert Oppenheimer(オッペンハイマー)was born on 22 April 1904 in a Jewish family. Oppenheimer had a brother named Frank. His father had a clothing business and his mother was a painter. His father was born in Germany, after which he moved to America, where his father worked in a textile company and within 10 years he reached the executive position of that company. After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Harvard University in 1927, he did a PhD in Physics from the University of Germany in 1927. In 1936, he became a Professor at the University of California.

(オッペンハイマー) Oppenheimer In Manhattan Project:

In 1942, Oppenheimer was selected for the Manhattan Project and in 1943 he was made director of Los Alamos Laboratory. Work on making the first nuclear bomb was going on at Los Alamos Laboratory and Oppenheimer, being the director, made the project a great success. The first nuclear test Trinity was conducted in July 2015 and after this in August 2015, this nuclear bomb was used on two cities of Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

After the Trinity Test, Oppenheimer recalled a verse from the Bhagavad Gita and said,

“If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one … Now I am become Death, the shatterer of worlds.”

Recalling this moment in 1965, he said that We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

After the attack on Japan, Oppenheimer met the US President and told the President, “Mr. President, I feel I have blood on my hands.” Oppenheimer died of throat cancer on 18 February 1962.
